On the occasion of the exhibition, a catalogue of the pieces was published in a limited edition (75 copies; 80CHF). Reproductions of the digigraphic works are also available in a smaller format (50x70cm) and at a more modest price (250 CHF). Each with a print run of 10 copies, they allow you to purchase one of the works for which the price (2'800 CHF- 2'500€ approx.) is reserved for the most dedicated (and wealthy) collectors.
Believe it or not, Filip Leu has never had his own solo exhibition before. It has now been done, with the event organized at the Next Door Gallery in Geneva. The Swiss, who some consider in the profession as the best tattoo artist in the world, chose to show not tattoos but sketches for the occasion. There are 32 of them, and they were made within a month using charcoal on paper, in real size format. The sketches all use an identical concept: the silhouette of a body, seen from behind, forms a frame in which the artist develops compositions that could be tattooed. Voluntarily minimalist, they focus on the motif of a skull thus declined according to Filip's inspiration and influences: Japanese, biomechanical, realistic, etc. The charcoal technique has left a lot of freedom to the gesture and in this free exercise of creation, by concentrating on the bases of a design rather than its details, the artist reminds us that a good tattoo begins first with a good idea. Entitled "Back pieces", the exhibition is to be seen until March 30. -
